This year’s Make Art With.. production is We Deserve Better. - a raw, urgent response to the systems that fail us and the hope we’re determined to build anyway.
This year Developing Artists’ ensemble collaborated with Liza Jessie Peterson —acclaimed playwright, actor, and artivist, known for her powerful solo work The Peculiar Patriot and deep commitment to social justice.
MAKE ART WITH’S MISSION:
Make Art With is Developing Artists’ summer production class, where ensemble members work side by side with a prominent NYC artist to devise and stage a brand-new theatrical work. Each year’s lead artist collaborates with students to explore themes through writing, rehearsal, and performance. The class culminates in a full production that showcases the voices, talents, and ideas of the ensemble.
It embodies our commitment to artistic excellence and mentorship as well as reconfirms our commitment to cultivating the future of the arts, empowering young artists to thrive and excel within the vibrant landscape of New York City's performing arts. It is designed to open doors for our ensemble members, apply their training in tangible, professional settings and provide students with the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with renowned NYC artists. We aim to bridge the gap between aspiring young artists and established professionals, fostering a learning environment rich in experience, creativity, and professional growth.
